The modular home industry has come a long way in the past 20 years since Precision Builders began serving Delaware, Schoharie and Otsego counties. If you haven’t looked at a modular home recently, allow us to dispel a few myths.

MYTH: “Modular” is a plain, boxy style of home.

FACT: “Modular” is a method of construction, and has nothing to do with the appearance of the home. Some modular homes are ranch style, while others are colonial or modern. The only limit to the options is the owner’s imagination.

MYTH: Modular homes are a lower quality than stick-built homes.

FACT: Precision Builders uses materials that are equal to or of greater quality than many on-site builders. We are the authorized builder for Westchester Modular Homes, which sets the standard with Andersen windows, Certainteed siding, Delta faucets and other high quality fixtures.

MYTH: Modular homes all look alike.

FACT: We work closely with our clients to customize our floor plans and other options to meet each buyer’s needs. All Westchester floor plans can be altered to meet your specifications or you can bring us your custom home plans, and we will work with you to build a more efficient and cost effective modular home. You also have unlimited options when it comes to the finishes, whether you want hardwood floors, custom tile work, granite countertops or a custom kitchen.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a modular home?

Modular is a method of construction in which homes are constructed in a climate controlled environment using state-of-the-art engineering and assembly line techniques. Homes are built in a factory and then transported to your building site where it will be placed on the foundation. They are built using the highest quality and are impossible to distinguish from a stick built home once completed at your site. The range of home plans and options can be custom designed to suit your budget and style.

How do Modular Homes differ from "manufactured homes"?
These type of homes refer to homes that are towed to your site (more commonly called mobile homes) and have a steel frame that remains connected to the home. They are not built on a standard foundation. Manufactured homes are built to HUD code unlike codes for modular home builders or custom home builders. Modular homes exceed all national and local builder coded. These modules must be built strong enough to withstand the stress of transportation to their final location and are exceptionally well engineered. Once they are placed on a foundation, they are considered a permanent structure.

Is Modular building energy efficient?
We are an ENERGY STAR partner and committed to using energy efficient building methods and materials. We offer highly energy efficient Anderson windows, high standard insulation and water saving options. Your new home can be built to Energy Star Standards. Go to www.energystar.gov for more information.

Building "green" is a concern. Are Westchester Modular's green?
Green building is a practice of using sustainable materials and designs in new construction. Since modular homes are built in a factory, they have less impact on the environment.

I have a plan - how do I know if this can be modular?
In more cases, we can build your custom home plan more efficiently and cost effectively. Computed Aided Drafting (CAD) allows us to design your home with incredible details right in our office.
